How To Do Awesome Interviews

Interviews can be pretty exciting and allow you to see the skills and expertise available in the market. You often want to achieve, especially with your first employee. You want someone you can hand over to and who will compensate for the skills you do not have or the things you usually hate doing. This ensures you can distribute duties evenly, and you can take some time off when necessary.

To get such a candidate, you need to prepare and prepare adequately for the interview. The following are some things you should do to ensure the interview run smoothly ad you get the best candidate you can:

  • Pre-screen candidates on the phone.
  • Prepare candidates for the interview by letting them know of samples or portfolios they will bring along for the discussion.
  • Interview several candidates, and do not hurry to hire until you have seen a good number of potential candidates. Work with a minimum of 3 who meet your criteria.
  • Listen. If you tend to speak more than the candidate, you will not rank them fairly.
  • Use the same assessment tool for all candidates.
  • Don’t make promises you cannot keep.
  • Be objective and hire people based on what you expect from them and not because you know them or just like them.
  • Preferably have at least two interviews with your shortlisted candidates before you decide.
