Shadow

This is an easy watch, has enough action to keep you glued for each episode but does not hold you hostage.  Each episode is whole on its own, with storylines not flowing on in the next episode. That’s saying it is not ‘binge-able’ so you are free to enjoy it sensibly.

While this may not be good enough for those hoping for more graphic work. I think this made the characters more believable and the storylines and characters easier to appreciate.

The Story

Set in Johannesburg, an ex-cop who has left the force after he is frustrated by the lack of justice in the justice system goes about the city helping people who need his help but cannot or do not trust the formal justice system.

His personal history also aids as much as it abases his performance, being unable to feel pain because he was struck by lightning as a child, he can do more than an average cop. One the other, he can get extensively damaged and weak before he realizes he has been hurt. On the emotional side, he lost his six-year-old daughter when an ex-boyfriend to his baby mama sort revenge. He is looking to strike back but the man has disappeared. This is part of what fuels his need to seek justice for those who cannot defend themselves.

The Actors

I think the casting director did a good job. The actors look good together in each episode – none is out of place and they carry their characters pretty well.
My favorites in the series are Pallance Dladla the lead – Shadow, and Tumie who takes the role of his sister, Zola. Pallance gives Shadow the two sides of his character that make him believable, a tough yet gentle soul. Someone who definitely would be fed up with an unjust justice system, and want to go out and help others. The gentle voice and calm nature he portrays for this character make him believable that his clients are mainly female as they can go to him for help when in trouble and with the most embarrassing problems e.g. posing for nude photos to get loans, stupid as their mistakes may be.
Most of the villains in the series do a good job,

Technical Construction

I like that though an action movie there is nothing too graphic or scraggy about it, making it palpable for a large audience. I believe this is because the actors did their own stunts. Cinematography, camera, lighting are good however I think some of the dramatic scenes could be better with better camera angles.
