Joke Silva is a Lagosian Actress, Movie director, philanthropist, and successful businesswoman. In her interview with Chude, she discussed her early years at an annual Lagos conference in 2017. She was born in Lagos, and her wealthy parents adopted her in the same state. Discovering her adoption at the age of eight wasn’t pleasant. Her education started in the western part of Nigeria, and she later furthered her studies abroad. Overall, Joke Silva is one of the greatest actresses in Nollywood.

Biography and Education

Joke Silva was born on September 1961. Her parents encouraged her to start acting as a hobby in primary school. She continued acting when she joined secondary at Holy Child college, where she got her school leaving certificate. She proceeded to the University of Lagos, studied English and then left for the Webber Douglas Academy in London, where she graduated in Dramatic Arts.

Career

Some movies she featured include the Royal Hibiscus hotel, Tango with me, a letter to a stranger, The grave dust, Kada river, The visitor, Bandit, Phone Swap, Married but Living Single.

Joke Silva became a professional actress in the early 1990s. She started with stage performances, and when Joke Silva returned to Nigeria, she got cast in a movie called Owulorojo in 2013. Joke has had several other roles since then. She has appeared in 250 different movies since her first release of the Movie Mind-Bending, showing her relentless dedication to her accomplishments in the Nollywood and m making her remain relevant to this day. She is one of the pioneer Managing Directors of a movie academy attached to the Kwara State University, popularly known as Malete Film Village.

The Silva family accepted the Nollywood icon and trained her like one of their own. Her adoptive mother, Abimbola Silva, was the third female doctor in the country, and her adoptive father was a lawyer. She has four other siblings. In this family, Joke was the most famous. The other siblings are not in the public eye.

Joke Silva found the love of her life, Olu Jacobs, at an independence event, and they have been together since then.

Achievement and Awards

Joke Silva has gathered some outstanding awards and many nominations during her career. The big boost to her career was in 2006 when AMAA nominated her for the category of best actress for her role in “Woman Cot”.
