A Naija Christmas

If you love comedy, this is it! It is a heartwarming and highly entertaining tango between a mother, her sons, and the skeletons in their cupboards when it comes to relationships. A Naija Christmas is a 2021 Nigerian Christmas movie, perfectly directed by Kunle Afolayan. The movie was released on Netflix on December 16th, 2021, and is the first Nigerian Christmas movie on the platform.

The movie shows the Nigerian way of celebrating Christmas. The film also portrays typical family life in Nigeria. The mother’s pressure to become a grandmother and how that pressure can affect the children, the love which grows among families, and how the Naija families overcome their challenges.

The Movie Plot

Spoiler Alert!!

Fulfilling a mother’s dream is complex; it was the same for Chike, Ugo, and Obi, the three sons of Madam Agatha. Madam Agatha wants her sons to “Get Married before Christmas and win the family house”. Mama was tired of being picked on for not being a grandmother by the “Ladies of destiny”, a women’s church group she leads. She is shocked when her hopes are further thwarted by the shenanigans in her sons’ lives, causing her to end up in the Emergency ward. The question is, who of her 3 sons will win the house at Ikoyi?

The scriptwriter did well with the number of shenanigans woven into the storyline.

 The Actors.

First is the lead, madam Racheal Oniga once again. She executed her role in the movie perfectly. She symbolically represents every mother in Africa, a lovely, peaceful, and caring mother who cares so much for her kids.

Lateef Adedimeji also reeks class. He executed his role flawlessly. He is an actor to watch if he continues delivering his parts perfectly.

My favourite actor in the movie was Ajike. Her dressing, her character, how she spoke, how she reacted all through the film! Amazing! Some parts were absolutely hilarious l- like when she slaps Ugo.

Every character executed their role close to perfection.

The Cast

Technical Construction

The location of the movie made it very interesting. It was located on the rural side of Lagos, Mushin. Every Lagos person knows how mushin is. The movie gave the rural area the hit of class it deserves. The lighting, photography, the imagery of the film all speaks style.

Trust me, this movie is a must-watch for every comedy movie lover.

The Naija Christmas trended as the Number 1 “Most trending Nollywood movie for four consecutive weeks after its release. It is no doubt one of the epic movies of 2021.

Kunle Afolayan directed the movie and got praise for doing a fantastic job. The film was recognized by the New York Times.
