Freedom

After watching this, old slim men look very disgusting. The script gives a different angle on human trafficking issues. But, all said and done this production was very poorly executed. More effort should have been made to make this a better product because of the importance of the topic.
A joke is made of a sensitive issue by not getting the best actors to communicate the plight of minors finding themselves in such circumstances.

The Story
Kate signs a non-disclosure agreement when she starts work as a maid at Chief Kandi’s house. Unknown to her this is the beginning of a series of events that she can not keep to herself. A twisted history forces her to try and help her husband get freedom from a past addiction to her own peril.

The themes covered are human trafficking and mental health.

The storyline is unique. Though there are many human trafficking stories this brings a unique angle.

The Actors

Wale Ojo is disgustingly convincing – he did a great job. The chemistry between Ray Emodi and him felt real. I was quite surprised when the truth of their relationship comes out. But, in some instances, their roles are a joke. Stephanie does a great job with Kate the character she plays.

The repetitive use of the same girls for the children watered down the quality of the film. The director failed on this.

The Cast Freedom

Acting: believability
Charity Awoke – Nonso
Esene Stephanie – Kate
Frances Ben – Jane
Justice Oghenenchuko – Security Guard
Ray Emodi – Jamal
Sofia Munachi – Edna
Tegbe Oluwatowo – Chioma
Wale Ojo – Chief Kandi

Technical Construction

The tension as we wait to find out why Jane killed her husband and his father is there throughout the film. This is through the use of music and the pace of events.

The sound got lost in parts of the movie, and music is used to cover up in many places. The picture quality and lighting are good. There are no special effects used. But, this does not hinder the delivery of the message. Although many scenes would have been better if shots were made at different angles. For example, Jane’s depression and frustration after weeks of rape are not convincing. The viewer cannot connect with Jane’s character in this regard.

Conclusion

A lot could have been done to make this a better production. Convincingly disgusting as the father-son duo are, most of it was amateur.

Rating

I give this a 2/ 10 for the script, so much is lacking.
