Beverly Ifunaya Bassey portrays the African spirit of hard work, commitment, and determination to succeed. Though born in London, United Kingdom, it did not stop her from being a great Nigerian actress. Beverly won the most promising talent at the Best of Nollywood awards 2010. After graduating, she was sure she wanted to act but could only shoot once a year in London, so she returned to Nigeria to shoot more films and build a brand. In 2011, Beverly Naya was named the “fastest rising actress” at the City people entertainment awards.

Beverly Naya Early Life

Beverly Ifunaya was an only child, born on April 17, 1989. Her parents are from Ibuzor in Oshimili, North local government. Despite racism, while growing up, she regained her confidence, and since her 20s, she has advocated for stopping discrimination in society.

Naya did her primary and high school in the United Kingdom. She joined Brunel University, where she studied Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology but later changed to Dance and Drama. She further went to Roehampton University in London to study Scriptwriting and Filmmaking.

Career Launch

Beverly Naya started acting at 17 while still a student at Brunel University. She began with short films for the British Broadcasting Corporation and The Metropolitan Police. She also featured in theatre productions like Crave and Stoning Mary.

Beverly left for Nigeria in 2011, where she landed her first Nigerian movie role as a lead in” Home in exile.” This role made her prominent in the Nollywood industry. She also appeared in Tinsel and Guilty pleasures.

After she relocated to Nigeria, Naya became a relentless entrepreneur. She wanted to do more than act and understood she could not only depend on acting to survive.

She registered Be Naya, which deals in agricultural processing. Another business in the pipeline is in the beauty sector. The 33-year-old actress has a farm, and her vision is to focus on the needs of those at the bottom of the pyramid. Beverly felt that everyone was focusing on what the elite needed.

The actress came up with a campaign called Fifty Shades of Black. It focuses on eliminating discrimination against the black race. What motivated her to do the campaign is that she was bullied as a child for her skin colour.

The movement is meant specifically for young people. It speaks to them about self-love, self-esteem, and self-discovery. Naya is a naturalist. She even keeps her hair natural, motivating people to love themselves.
