inumber Number

This is so far the best African action movie I have watched. From beginning to end it is fast-paced, enchanting, and totally relatable It definitely deserved the Golden Horn Award it got in 2016.
I think this movie fits right there with the best international action movies and is much better than most. The best part is one can relate to what the characters are facing.

The Story
A corrupt superior blocks the reward a cop is entitled to after capturing a gang of dangerous criminals. Drowning in debt, he convinces his partner to support him in not bringing down a gang he is working undercover in. Stupid bravado from his partner means someone is getting killed and everything is going down in a few hours.
I love the backstories of each of the characters and this explains the continuous conflict between the different parties, unlike most action movies where men are shouting and are in conflict for no particular reason. The writer thought the plot pretty well and helps us understand the various relationships and in the process giving every member of the gang a moment to shine and not just be in the background.

The Actors

The whole cast did a great job on this production. While S’dumo kept the tension going from beginning to end, Chweya was convincingly irritating.
My favorite scene comes almost last when Chili jumps down in the warehouse with only a bag of money to protect him from the hail of bullets. A seemingly simple move it carries so much tension with it after everything that has happened.
The other outstanding scene comes first in the movie. Chili kills his abductor – fast furious and in a matter of seconds before he had no possibility of escaping.

The Cast

Dumisani Dlamini –  Kong
Israel Matseke-Zulu – Skroef
Mncedisi Shabangu – Mkoto Skhakhane
Mpho Sibeko – TK
Presley Chweneyagae – Shoes
Ronnie Nyakale – Capt. Stone
S’dumo Mtshali – Chili
Sayitsheni Mdakhi – Armstrong
Sonia Mbele – Philani Skhakhane
Thishiwe Ziqubu – Liyana
Thulane Shange – Tony
Thulani Mtsweni – Nyoka
Tsholofelo Matshaba – Amahle
Tumie Ngumla – Thuli
Zola Nambona – Zizi

Technical Construction

I think the best feature of this movie is the camera angles and sound. The DOP often goes out of his way to give a unique perspective of what Chili was seeing and doing; whether running after a suspect or instructing Shoes on what to do from his vantage point.

Conclusion

This production definitely deserved the Golden Horn Award.  Every aspect of the movie is well thought through and executed making for a winning production.

Rating

I give it a  9/10 – nothing’s perfect
