Fifty – The Movie

Love the easy pace of Fifty – the movie, however, there’s nothing easy about the characters. Each one is more than just passionate about something they are on the verge of fanatical.
This makes one wonder whether life should be more about balance or passion and at what age does the drama really end? It is a good teaser for conversation. Watch with friends if you can.

The Story

Four women at pivotal stages in their career, are forced, through their strained relationships with family friends, to reanalyze where they are in their lives. There are betrayals, secrets, illnesses, misunderstandings, and lies that have led to the circumstances they now find themselves in.

The Actors

Between Lizzie(Ireti), Tola (Dakore) Kate(Nse), and Maria (Omoni) I think Ireti did it for me. However, this was a star-studded production and without competing they give us a movie that is well worth watching.

The characters are quite believable and Ireti clearly owns her character to the finest details. Everyone did a great job though. My favorite scene is at Talo’s house when she is bossing everyone and in Lizzie’s office when she discovers her friend Maria is pregnant. Maria does the jealous girlfriend thing really well and Lizzie’s sharp tongue is obvious as she makes fun of her thanks to great scriptwriting?…. she does it so well can’t tell if its the script or her own words.

Technical Construction

The music, lighting camera angles were OK. Think more could have been done to bring out Dakore’s expressions when she is upset and Omoni’s jealousy of her. All said the message is passed on in the script. The director did a great job of bringing everything together.

Rating

I give it a 7/ 10. It is interesting and entertaining but I wouldn’t say any of the storylines is any different from what we have seen in the past in execution or originality. However, having such a star-studded cast gives it an extra punch.
